DART Asteroid Impact Viewing Party

3:30 PM

Join us in the DiRAC Lounge (PAB 356)  3:30pm PT, Monday, September 26th

A viewing party of NASA’s webcast covering the DART probe’s impact into asteroid Dimorphos!

This is NASA’s first planetary defense test mission, testing how well a “kinetic impactor” can shift the trajectory of an asteroid. Don’t worry, this object is safely away from the Earth — it’s just target practice! (see more at https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://dart.jhuapl.edu/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!kWHFyzdyMUu10rabb0c2tXnnQNnf9UfB2rGu0pYUzBnyzbWzpXquP8Mrl-styif0gU_Uz4SplBE1SllZJPFT-hH9s8d7faQ$  )

The impact itself is expected exactly at 4:14pm PT. We’ll start at 3:30p, have snacks, drinks, and a short intro by or own Ari Heinze about what are Near Earth Asteroids, can they be dangerous, and what we’re doing to find them.
