LINCC is an initiative of the LSST Corporation and its member institutions, in consultation with LSST Science Collaborations, to foster a) the creation and sharing of analysis tools for key LSST science goals; b) the training and mentoring of future scientific leaders; and c) the opening of discovery space to a larger and more inclusive community. The four institutions that have been working closely with LSSTC to establish LINCC, and that constitute the initial Hub of LINCC, are LSSTC Member Institutions: Carnegie Mellon University, Northwestern University, University of Arizona, and University of Washington.

Soon the Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) will produce an enormous and unique photometric dataset, both over the sky and over time.  The astrophysics community aims to use this dataset to answer fundamental questions about cosmology, the evolution of structure in the universe, the astrophysics of compact objects, the origin of the periodic table, the formation of our Solar System, and even the potential menace of Earth orbit crossing objects.  To answer such questions and many others, we will need to build on the LSST dataset.
